You Have a Print Release | Now What? Lab Recommendations for Display

Recommended Consumer Labs + Tips to Display Your Professional Portraits

Hey, Moms (and Dads)! Today's blog post is all about what to do with your print release! As a professional Houston photographer, all of my collections are digitally based, meaning you have invested one flat rate for the right to print your images as many times as you would like. They're full-size digital files, beautifully retouched, and they're yours to print as many times as you would like, forever. I believe in being fully transparent and offering modern yet laid back sessions for my clients. I know how busy things get and how you may not be ready to immediately decide how to showcase your session. You may also be in the middle of a move, job change, or perhaps learning to balance everything, so this gives you flexibility and ease.

According to the popular LawTog website, a print release is exactly what it says it is: allows you to print for personal use at home while preserving the rights of the Photographer.

  • unlimited printing of your pictures (albums, canvases, wall art, decor, etc.)

  • posting of files on your social media

  • may use the digital file in your holiday cards

  • digital file to keep forever!

Part of my job is having amazing customer service! I aim to be one of the Best Houston Family Photographers and offer affordable options to you, all of which are simple and transparent pricing you're sure to understand. While I do sell digital files, I take time to educate you, as a client, on where to buy your prints, products, albums, canvases, etc., from so you're sure to have a good looking and high-quality final product, as you have invested in the printing rights. I pinky promise I won't send you a bunch of digital files and say, "Alright, good luck!"

First things first: please back your session up into the cloud. I hold onto final edited JPEG files for 12 months though recommend clients save their session into the cloud. This will keep your photos safely archived for years. While you're here, check out my Three Favorite Free Cloud Storage Recommendations.

Now for the fun part: your lab recommendations! Your photos may be printed as large as you want: typically up to 50x60” is what consumer labs offer.

Lab Number One: Mpix Click here to see products at Mpix

  • Great for gift size prints and canvas wall art

  • Matte prints are the best paper in this lab

  • Mpix is owned by Millers (a professional lab) so they’re like the little brother of professional prints. The customer service is great.

Lab Number Two: Artifact Uprising See Website and Options

  • Great for heirloom baby books and albums + hardcover books are superb

  • Offer really unique and authentic ways to display your images

  • Baby announcement cards

  • High-quality frames (hardwood, thick matting, and also a metal option)

Lab Number Three: ZNO at Enter Website by Clicking Here

  •         Affordable, high-quality albums, cards, calendars, books, etc.

  •         Many professionals use this lab, but it is also open to consumers

  • ·        Albums look expensive and high end – can be passed down to generations and is heirloom quality.

Please avoid labs like Walgreens, CVS, Shutterfly, etc. Those labs do not color match the edits on your images and the quality is not going to last for long. Mpix, ZNO, and Artifact Uprising are the best options available to parents.

The ideas below are sample wall art groupings you may find inspiring when you're considering how to showcase your session in your home, office, workspace, or perhaps even gifting to grandparents or loved ones.
